Global Digital Health Forum 2023: Remind me, track my mood and I will adhere to treatment -The KidzAlive@Home App

Abstract (Solution Demonstration)

Background

The KidzAlive@Home app enhances medication adherence among children and adolescents living with HIV (CALHIV). Developed by Zoë Life Innovative Solutions, it leverages a child-centred and psychosocial model, focusing on holistic healthcare, including case finding and adherence support.

Aim

The app's aim is to empower CALHIV to manage their health actively by utilising the widespread access to mobile phones in low-resource areas.

Features

Targeting newly diagnosed and existing CALHIV, the app offers age-appropriate reminders for ARV intake, mood tracking, and physical well-being. Caregivers can also set clinic appointment reminders and access daily medication summaries.

Methods

Designed with evidence-based approaches, the app addresses adherence barriers like forgetfulness and stigma to improve health outcomes for CALHIV.

Innovation

The KidzAlive@Home app fills a crucial gap in digital health by specifically catering to CALHIV, focusing on child-centred and context-sensitive care while considering language and stigma.

Conclusion

By promoting active engagement and education, the KidzAlive@Home app provides a novel solution to improve medication adherence among CALHIV, empowering them to take control of their health.
