Background
The KidzAlive Talk Tool App is a digital health intervention designed to enhance HIV services for children and caregivers through animated storytelling and gamification, aimed at improving healthcare delivery for children living with HIV.
Aim
The app's primary goal is to boost health outcomes by identifying children living with HIV and ensuring their retention in care while empowering healthcare workers to provide comprehensive support.
Setting
The app is integrated into existing healthcare systems, aligning with current workflows to maintain a seamless continuum of care for paediatric patients.
Methods
Employing a mixed methods approach, the study adheres to WHO guidelines for mobile app evaluation, focusing on qualitative and quantitative data. It emphasises patient-centred care, inclusivity, and sustainability while equipping healthcare workers with essential HIV educational content.
Results
The app has made a significant impact on healthcare delivery, achieving notable outcomes such as 1,816 children receiving HIV testing services, with 112 testing positive, reflecting a positivity yield of 6.17%. Additionally, it has facilitated age-appropriate disclosure for 1,724 children and adolescents, while reaching a total of 25,375 children and adolescents through health education and support groups.
Conclusion
The KidzAlive Talk Tool App offers an innovative approach to retaining children in HIV care, showcasing the potential to improve retention rates through interactive content and enhanced healthcare service delivery.
